Cops Rods neede

Posted in Uncategorized on May 10, 2009 by purplebeachbomb2

Well, over the last few months been watching the the Cop Rods, Fire Rods, Military Rods.
observations-
1. NO REAL RIDERS
2. $2.99-2.97 WTF
3. The same cars are still on the pegs 3 months later
4. Why are the same cars on the pegs? see #1 and #2

Okay someone teach the retailers to order a little at a time, not 60,000 of the first run. Didn’t they learn from the hiway 35 and acceleracers ?

ANYWAYS–
I’m looking forward to 2 of the cop rods for sure, love this truck and the thunder is a favorite cast too.

Color Changers are back…!

Posted in 2009, collecting, color changers with tags , , , on January 11, 2009 by purplebeachbomb2

Yes, remember the 80’s ? The color Changers are back. Mattle, thank you for going retro.

Quote: “Two other innovations were introduced briefly in Hotwheels cars in the 1980s – Thermal Color Change paint, and rotating Crash Panel vehicles. The former were able to change color on exposure to hot or cold water, and there were an initial release of 20 different cars, available as sets of three vehicles. The latter were vehicles with a panel that, on contact, would rotate to reveal a flip side which appeared to be heavily dented. Variations in crash-panels included front, rear and side panels, the last of which’s mechanism has proven to be the most durable.” -wikipedia

Here is the new…looks like 2 colors of each casting coming soon…

Classic Series5 2009 *UPDATE

Posted in 2009, classics, collecting, collection with tags , , , , on January 9, 2009 by purplebeachbomb2

Here is an update as to what is coming. I posted a few weeks ago the 70 Monte Carlo coming, well  here is the finished product. Again this isn’t my favorite color, it looks to fake, not a true spectra-flame color. Seems as though Hot Wheels likes the color enough though, because the second color for the Avanti is apple green too. I would have really liked purple to show up sometime soon. I’ve been looking more and more at 68-70 redline era cars, and studying the color. There are a lot of color choices, I wish Mattel would take a little more time trying to color match. I mean they don’t have to be spot on, but bring back something a little closer.
Here is one more idea, tell me if I’m wrong. Since Mattel brought back the basic wheel design in the since 68 last year, why didn’t they but them on the classics this year? Come on desingers, they are available to use now, put them on the cars.

‘55 panel is coming for 2009?

Posted in 2009, collecting, collection, hot wheels, hotwheels with tags , , , , , on December 28, 2008 by purplebeachbomb2

Happy  “glad the holidays are over”  Sunday.

I hope that everyone had a safe Holiday season.
Looks like maybe a new panel is out this year. So the question i always propose is where will it be?
A friend and I were talking this morning, since a panel is not scheduled for the Classics, Larry’s Garage, this must be for a Mail away in 2009.

This might even be the first one, because the number 1 in the upper corner of the truck.

This puppy looks sharp, the wide white walls with this paint job, is pretty cool. Now we all know that is truck being released, and released like this is only 80% chance.

Now keep in mind, the stores are going through a “RESET” so the new “PLAN-O-GRAMS” will be out, they get new stuff in…..but get only 1 new shippment and we will never see anymore. Why? because stores don’t understand the die cast world….lol.

Keep your eyes open, more to come in the few days.

Classic 2009 chase pieces

Posted in classics, hot wheels, hotwheels with tags , , , on December 11, 2008 by purplebeachbomb2

classic series 5 has chase pieces like the super hunt, regular hunt. I’m not sure weather this is a good, thing.
I’m sure it will breath life back into this dieing line.

Here are a few confirmed…..

I’m sure your wonder why I said dieing line? Well, the stores have taken the price up several dollars. The line started at $2.79, went to $3.29, then to $3.79 and some store now (K-Mart) are up to $4.29. Now as a few friends of mine have pointed out, wait they will be on the secondary market for $1-2. What drives these prices, is the ” Gotta have it, need it now” folks. Most of the chase pieces are hit $6-15, which isn’t to bad. The demand drops, as soon as the new one is out. I like the chase idea, this is what JL does, it is what Green light does. Except for the foil seal in the top corner, they are harder to find the the dastardly treasure hunt.

Larry’s Garage 56 chevy color 2

Posted in 2009, collecting, collection, hot wheels, hotwheels, larrys garage with tags , , , on December 6, 2008 by purplebeachbomb2

Ok, looks like the second color is coming. I have to say this combination is really got that pro-touring look. The blacked out wheels look wicked cool, with the black body.

So does this mean we will have 2 color of every Larry’s Garage, or will there be more? I can see 2 being a good number. I do enjoy that the cars do look so different that it does inspire  me to want both.

8 Crate–love that wagon

I love this car. There was something about the body lines of the 55-57 fords I like. I know old Henry Ford never intend a Hemi in the back seat. Here are a few little blurbs about the Parklane wagon in 1956 –”The Parklane – newest addition to the famous Ford Station Wagon fleet – is a handsome 6-passenger, two-door model with three stunning new woven plastic and vinyl interiors available: blue, green, or tan. In back, a trim vinyl cover snaps neatly over the luggage area at the beltline. Perforated vinyl headlinings are in blue, green, or white. “

The El Camino is back

Posted in 2009, classics, hot wheels, hotwheels with tags , , , on December 1, 2008 by purplebeachbomb2

I was excited earlier this year to learn an el camino was back in the line up, and not one with a mess design (motor and wing in bed). Now granted it was in the modern classic series, which Walmart only carried.

Well looks like it’s back and maybe in the 2009 classic series? It’s not listed, but then again there have been tons of stuff I’ve been seeing that doesn’t fit anywhere.

I’m taking an guess, that this is the regular and  the  chase piece. I for some reason love the color, except the green wheels go cheapen the car. The red line RR’s set it off wonderfully.

More more and more

Posted in New finds local, classics, drag strip demons, hot wheels, hotwheels with tags , , , on November 23, 2008 by purplebeachbomb2

Well, this weekend was interesting. I went to look at a collection, this had a lot of stuff. Now some was OK stuff, but most was stuff that was played with , and from 99-till about now. I saw a pool table full of loose cars, bumper to bumper, door to door. What do you say? some of honestly junk, but found a few treasures.Got a few older beatup, real riders, I needed the knobbie tires.

But let’s vist whats coming out in the classic series 5. How about a 70 monte Carlo? Well it’s coming. I’m excited because personally like those.

Drag Strip Demons

Now one of my favorite Classics over the years was the 68 Plymouth Hemi Cuda, I have the 4 colors they did (antifreeze, reddish orange, orange ice blue) and I have 1 of the 3 they put as limited cars in the 10 packs. in 2008 it was the first appearance of this casting (plastic vs the classics metal base). Now the Drag strip demons will feature the 1968 Sox and Martins Hemi Cuda.

Give me 2 please !

Here are 3 I missed posting last time.
